Family medicine has made a measurable difference in improving the health of the people of South Africa. We are growing and developing throughout Africa and making a significant contribution to the strengthening of district health systems and primary health care. There is a strong district health system in both urban and rural areas of South Africa, which is able to promote health, wellness and prevent disease, equitable, cost-effective and holistic and integrative in its approach. Our new generation of family physicians are mentors and capacity builders who are engaged in collaborative practice. ?
